Q&A with Goldkey

Our latest Q&A is here! Learn a little bit about artist, Goldkey, and be sure to follow him on social media!

1) What was your favorite artist/band growing up?
Michael Jackson is the reason I am so passionate about music. Every single thing he did was extremely calculated and it resonated with me at a young age. "Thriller" was the obvious hit machine but it was albums like "Bad" and "Dangerous" that had me listening to each song through and through and breaking down each component of those songs even further. To this day, his songwriting and production are unrivaled in my opinion.

2) Who are your musical influences?
In addition to MJ, I like to think the heart and soul of what Jeff Buckley poured into his music is something I've always carried with me. Additionally, I'm a huge Beck, Ryan Adams and Wilco fan. I've been collecting their entire discography since the beginning of time.

3) What do you love most about music?
There is always something new getting released that alters the perception of a traditional song. You'll notice that most with bands like Spoon, who have been reinventing themselves for so long, or even newer groups like Alt-J, who have a very distinct sound from what's already out there. The beauty of music is that you're kept on your toes but it helps you reinvent your own sound all the time.

4) If you could perform anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I've heard through the grapevine that live music is appreciated more in European countries typically because they are more polite and open-minded. In NYC, people are too distracted by their phones whether it be tweeting or swiping right.

5) Congratulations on Mountain! What can you tell us about it?
Thank you! "Mountain" is my first single, which is currently available on Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, and all the other streaming services out there. The main premise behind the song is centered around having a conflicted relationship with where you're from. In my case, that's Queens, NY and today, Manhattan. I believe you can truly love and appreciate where you're from while also feeling suffocated. I think anyone would feel that way being in once place for too long. The rest of the song does speak for itself and I do believe it will resonate with anyone coming from a similar place.

6) What would you like to say to your fans/followers?
Play it on repeat! Soon enough, I'm going to have some brand new music. Look out for it by mid-summer.

Joe Hicks shares latest solo release, ‘Something in the Water’

26 year old guitarist and singer-songwriter Joe Hicks from Newbury, Berkshire is embarking on his own music project after recently playing as a session guitarist for Sarah Walk and Adam Barnes. Joe is a real music lover and is inspired by the organic side of creating music. He enlists John Martyn, John Mayer, Jamie Woon, Sting and Paul Simon as heavy influencers and why he has such an adulation for song-writing and guitar-based music.
His love for craftsmen such as Mayer and Woon encouraged an intricate recording process. Last summer, once Joe had decided to work on his own EP, he booked a small converted garage on Airbnb in St Ives, Cornwall that had no internet and no phone signal. “I wanted to get enough silence to focus on my own music. I spent the days writing and walking on the beach and then the evenings in the local pub.” It’s a testament to the passion Joe has for creating pure sounds and classic methods.

‘Something in the Water’ follows the first release, ‘Best Clothes’, which was added to the Spotify ‘Fresh Finds’ playlist.
